Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) member identification (ID) cards are a useful tool for both providers and members. ID cards easily identify members’ Blue Cross NC coverage type. We recommend providers view each member’s most current ID card at each visit and before any non-urgent services are provided.

If a Blue Cross NC member does not bring their ID card to an appointment, you can easily check Blue eSM to confirm the member’s benefits and eligibility.

Early in the year, some Blue Cross NC members may present you with a Certificate of Coverage. Issued by Blue Cross NC, the Certificate of Coverage serves as proof of members’ enrollment with us. Members whose cards have been temporarily misplaced can print temporary cards from our website, Blue Connect.

The fastest way to determine eligibility and benefits is by using Blue e. Providers should ensure their office staff are verifying benefits and eligibility at every patient visit, before rendering non-urgent services.

If your office is not currently signed up for Blue e, please visit Blue Cross NC electronic solutions on our website to learn more and complete the Interactive Network Arrangement to sign up.
