New Drug Onmel Will Require Prior Review

Onmel^® (itraconazole) is a newly released medication used in the treatment of antifungal infections. It contains the same main ingredient as Sporonox, but is in a tablet form instead of a capsule. 

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) will require pharmacy prior review of Onmel for all commercial individual and group members who have their pharmacy benefits and/or drug utilization programs with us.

This requirement will not apply to State Health Plan, Federal Employee Program, Blue Medicare^® or Medicare Supplemental members. Please check pharmacy benefits for these plans, as other pharmacy utilization requirements may apply for this particular drug.
