As a reminder, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) will be upgrading its main operating system for commercial claims processing. This upgrade is necessary due to certain regulatory mandates, as well as to allow us to make future customer service improvements more quickly and efficiently.

The system upgrade will begin today, Thursday, February 14 at 4 p.m. and is scheduled to last through Monday, February 18. During this time, most of our call centers, claims processing, online services and other functions will be affected.  However, providers and Blue Cross NC members will be able to speak to a customer service professional for urgent matters from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both Friday and Monday during the upgrade. The eSolutions HelpDesk will remain open, but with limited services available on Blue eSM.  A listing of scheduled Blue e outages is provided below:

These Blue e transactions will be temporarily unavailable Thursday, February 14, 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., and Monday, February 18, 2 a.m. until 8 a.m.:

  • Health Eligibility Inquiry
  • Patient Care Summary Reports

These Blue e transactions will not be available from Thursday, February 14, 4:00 p.m. until Monday, February 18, 8:00 a.m.:

  • Claim Status Inquiry
  • Remittance Inquiry
  • CMS-1500 Claim Entry
  • UB04-Claim Entry
  • Fee Schedule
  • Electronic Funds Transfer

Note: The Federal Employee Program, Blue Medicare, Medicare Part D, and Medicare Supplement business will not be affected, and the call centers for these products will operate per their normal business hours.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve our service and meet our regulatory requirements.
