Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) will be upgrading its main operating system for commercial claims processing in mid-February. This upgrade is necessary due to certain regulatory mandates, as well as to allow us to make future customer service improvements more quickly and efficiently.

The system upgrade will begin at 4:00 p.m. on the afternoon of Thursday, February 14, and is scheduled to last through Monday, February 18. During this time the customer service department for our commercial lines of business will be closed.  Additionally, claims processing will be temporarily suspended while the system upgrade is being completed.

We anticipate that many of our normal interactions with customers and health care providers will be limited, especially our ability to respond to non-urgent issues. However, member care issues, such as arranging service and obtaining pre-certification will be uninterrupted, and Blue eSM will remain available for certain services and member benefit/eligibility verification.

We will do everything we can to minimize this service disruption to both our members and network providers. Please do not contact Blue Cross NC Customer Service for further information, as additional details are not yet available. We will continue to assess how this upcoming system maintenance may potentially affect our operational capabilities. Once we’ve made a full determination of which operational services will be affected, we’ll provide you with those additional details.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation while we work to improve our system performance.
